THE ROOM

What remains visible when the ways we hide become smaller?
A quiet room. A black background. A stool. A human being.
THE ROOM is a long term photographic study by Stefan Sander about presence and the silent language of the body. Without fixed poses, images emerge through time, silence and observation. Posture, breathing and tension change during the encounter. Emotions are not directed.
Nudity is used as a method of reduction. When external signs disappear, attention shifts toward the human being. The project is intended primarily for exhibition. An accompanying book is also being considered.
Personal boundaries and the use of the photographs are agreed upon in writing before each session. Public presentation takes place only with explicit consent.
